This week I bring musical theatre back to my blog which I think will become more and more frequent. This week I do the “Musical Theatre Tag.” I have gained inspiration from justamusicalgal, with of course my own twist.
- Plays or musicals?
I have to say musicals by far because they have so much music, it’s what makes a performance for me personally. It’s still a hard decision because plays are just as entertaining, I haven’t really ever been in one however. I will definitely have to in the near future as I watched a few one act plays last weekend, loving all of them!
- When did you start liking the performing arts?
The answer to this question is quite simple; for as long as I can remember. Performing has always been a thing of mine, even when I was little and in kindergarten. My passion has definitely grown as I’ve become older because more opportunities have become available, meaning I can express it even more.
- Ever been in a musical?
I have been in a few musicals as some of you may know, my latest being PIRATES with my local community theatre group. Before that I had been in two school shows, one in grade six called The Gundaloo From Green Hill Lake, written by my drama teacher, and another one last year called How The West Was Warped. Even more exciting is my upcoming school musical Grease which is coming to life next week… I can’t wait!
- What was the first musical you saw in Melbourne?
The first musical I saw in Melbourne was Annie, it definitely played a big part in pushing my passion for musical theatre. Seeing kids not much older than me on a big stage was something that made me really excited and opened my eyes for the future.
- Favourite musical song to sing in the shower?
Yes, I am one of those people who sings musical songs in the shower on a daily basis. Normally I have a song/s I’m working on for a show/s or performances and they’re the ones I usually rehearse. It isn’t just the ones I am practicing that I sing but any musical tunes I’m enjoying at that moment as well.
6. Which musicals are you dying to see?
I don’t have the luxury of going to every musical that comes to Melbourne because of the distance and of course the price. The ones I do want to see in the future are Mamamia, Wicked and Kinky Boots just to name a few. To be completely honest I’ll go to any musical I can.
7.What is your all-time favourite musical?
This question is so hard to answer because I haven’t yet been to a musical that I have even come close to disliking. I’ve been to around 10 professional musicals and my top three would have to be Aladdin, The Lion King and Matilda.
8.Favourite thing about performing in musicals.
The whole thing! I love everything about performing in musicals, the whole process is hugely time-consuming and fun from start to finish. If I had to pick two it would be meeting new, amazing and hugely talented people, and entertaining hundreds of people while doing what you love.
9.What do you see as your future in theatre?
I am really not sure at this point because journalism is also a big part of my life. I have thought about doing it just for a hobby which will definitely be the case, I’m just not sure at present if it will become any more than that.
10.What would you do if theatre didn’t exist?
Life wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun without theatre, I would probably do more writing if it didn’t exist. I’m just glad it does because it’s something that makes me extraordinarily happy.
I hope you have enjoyed my musical theatre tag post for this week. I have a very busy couple of weeks ahead with my school’s production of Grease. I will keep you informed about my next two weeks’ posts will be up.
